Watersport thrills

Experience high-octane thrills, polish your skills or learn something new

Moskito is the jumping off point for exhilarating activities on and in the water

We’re delighted to be able to offer top-of-the-range watersports equipment at the Moskito Watersports Center, as well as experienced instructors who can provide coaching and all the gear and safety support required. They’re a great team and unfailingly enthusiastic about getting guests out on the water and having a fantastic time. Some activities, such as Hobie Cat sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding, sea bob riding, snorkeling, e-foiling, wing foiling and hydrofoiling are included in a stay at Moskito, but the estate managers also have excellent links with trusted suppliers and experts who can provide kit, instruction and safety support for the likes of SCUBA, fishing trips, kitesurfing, jet skiing and more. What will you try first?

wing foiling and hobie cat sailing

Hydrofoiling, wing foiling & e-foiling

Hydrofoiling involves riding a surfboard above the water which reduces friction and allows riders to glide effortlessly and smoothly. Add a hand-held wing sail, as above, and you’ve got wing foiling, which harnesses wind power to provide speed and thrills. Moskito also offers e-foiling, which is huge fun and sees the rider balance on a hydrofoil that’s fitted with an electric propeller to power the board through the ocean with ease.

Paddleboarding

Paddleboarding and kayaking

Stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking are a tranquil way of exploring the waters around the island under your own steam. If you’ve never done paddleboarding before then starting on your knees is the easiest method, but most people are up on their feet within 30 minutes. And with water this warm and clear, half the fun is falling in.

Hobie Cat sailing

We have a few of these cute little catamarans on the island, so experienced sailors can go out on their own, while beginners can learn to sail them with our experienced instructors or be taken on a tour of the waters around the island.

Sea bob

Sea Bob

If you’ve never tried a Sea Bob, you’ll be astounded by the freedom and flexibility of these little powered jets that allow the user to dive into the fascinating underwater world. Delivering both leisurely gliding and sporty driving on and under the water, they’re the nearest a human can get to feeling like a fish! Zoom powerfully and almost silently through the ocean and experience incredible underwater agility. To dive to greater depths all you need do is apply light pressure. While users can dive to depths of up to 40 meters, a safety cut-off feature ensures the selected diving depth is not exceeded.

Snorkeling

Snorkeling is popular from the beach and beyond, and the Watersports Center has lots of masks and flippers for guests to use. Those looking to explore deeper can request their estate manager to organize freediving lessons with one of our trusted suppliers as an addition to their package.

Kite surfing

Kitesurfing

Kitesurfing is very popular in the BVI thanks to the steady and consistent trade winds that visit the islands most of the year. These winds – plus pristine waters, so much space that you’ll never be crowded, and high-quality equipment and instruction – result in exhilarating rides. It’s no surprise so many visitors to Moskito discover a new-found passion for kitesurfing which draws them back to the islands again and again.

Your estate manager can organize equipment and lessons as an extra to your stay.

SCUBA

SCUBA, Snuba & freediving

Not far from Moskito is a huge reef teaming with marine life, which can be explored by SCUBA or Snuba. Our dive team can take divers to explore the wreck of the RMS Rhone. The ship was a British Royal Mail steam packet that transported mail cargo between England, Central America and the Caribbean. She was wrecked off the coast of Salt Island in 1867 and is regarded as one of the best wreck dives in the world. All equipment is provided, as well as prior training and qualification for beginners.

Snuba is form of surface-supplied diving that uses an underwater breathing system. It bridges the gap between snorkeling and SCUBA.

Your estate manager can organize equipment, instruction and boat travel with one of our trusted suppliers as an extra to your stay.

Jet ski

Jet ski and surfing

Experience the thrill of jetting through the waters of the North Sound by motorized means, or head to the little known breaks to be found off Tortola and Anegada to harness the power of surf on a surfboard.

Your estate manager can organize equipment and instruction with one of our trusted suppliers as an extra to your stay.

Fishing in the BVI

Sailing and fishing

The British Virgin Islands are a sailor’s paradise, thanks to steady trade winds and calm seas (especially in the North Sound, which is protected by a series of islands), so there are sailing opportunities suitable for beginners as well as those with honed experience. We can organize sailing so you can experience the stunning archipelago from the water – whether that’s under your own steam or with a crew who’ll look after you on the water.

Those who like to fish will appreciate the opportunity to catch species such as barracuda, bonita, kingfish and tarpon, which are found in inshore bays, mangrove lagoons, banks and reefs. The nearby island of Anegada is the home of bonefishing.

Your estate manager can organize a fishing trip with one of our trusted suppliers as an extra to your stay.
